Challenge Discovery Projects
Challenge Discovery Projects (CDP) reaches out to people facing some of the toughest challenges of life, and helps them find positive ways to grow and succeed. CDP provides a wide range of outpatient and school-based educational and prevention programs. These specialty programs address child and teenage substance abuse and misuse, violence and bullying prevention within our schools and community as well as unique services for the deaf and hard of hearing. At Challenge Discovery Projects, we are making a difference in the lives of children, adolescents, and families here in the Greater Richmond area. Founded in 1980, Challenge Discovery Projects helps our community through the following programs:
Say It With Heart is a school based violence and bullying prevention and life skill development program currently offered at the first, fifth, seventh and ninth grade levels. This program encourages positive communications and connections among members of the student's community, to include the student, the student's peers, parents and teachers.
Challenge Discovery Projects provides a safe and stable environment for urban youth who face a multitude of challenges, including substance abuse and a difficult home environment. This program provides outpatient services to more than 700 clients each year.
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Counseling Services is the only program of its kind in central Virginia, offering trained counselors, fluent in sign language, to guide and assist persons who are deaf, hard of hearing and deaf-blind. This program serves over 120 clients each year.
